Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of leather do you use?

Full-grain leather. This is the top layer of the hide with the grain left intact, rather than sanded down and coated in pigment the way most bags are. It is harder to work with and costs more per square foot, but it is the only leather that improves with age instead of cracking.

Where are Marrow & Hide bags made?

Our bags are made by hand by leather artisans in Pakistan and shipped directly to customers in the United States.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not at the moment. We currently ship to addresses within the United States only.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on every order. Orders are sent by FedEx, tracked and insured.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are dispatched within 2 business days and typically arrive 5 to 8 business days after dispatch.

Will I have to pay customs or import duties?

No. All customs duties and import taxes are paid by us before the parcel reaches you. You will not be asked for any payment on delivery.

What is your return policy?

You have 30 days from delivery to return any unused bag for a full refund. Returns are free — we send you a prepaid FedEx return label. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 3 business days of the bag reaching us.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. We warrant the stitching and hardware on every bag against manufacturing defects for three years from delivery. If a covered fault appears, we repair or replace the bag at no cost to you, including shipping both ways.

Which bag fits a 15-inch laptop?

The Harlan messenger bag has a padded 15-inch laptop sleeve, and the Kestrel backpack has a padded 15-inch laptop compartment. The Vance tote fits a 14-inch laptop and an A4 folder.

Is the Bramwell duffle carry-on sized?

At roughly 21 by 11 by 11 inches and about 40 litres, it meets carry-on limits on most US airlines. Limits vary by carrier, so check your airline before you fly.

What is saddle stitching, and why does it matter?

Saddle stitching uses two needles working one thread from both sides of the leather. If a single stitch breaks, the seam tightens rather than unravelling. Machine lock-stitching, which is faster and cheaper, comes apart from one broken thread.

Is your hardware solid brass or plated?

Solid brass. Plated zinc hardware looks the same when new but chips at the edges within months of daily use.

Will the leather change colour over time?

Yes, and it is meant to. Full-grain leather darkens, softens, and develops a sheen at contact points. Scratches usually settle into the surface within a few weeks of regular carry. This is patina, not damage, and it is not covered by — or in need of — the warranty.

How do I care for a full-grain leather bag?

Wipe it with a dry cloth. Condition it with a neutral leather balm two or three times a year. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun, and if it gets wet, let it dry naturally away from heat.

Can you repair a bag after the warranty ends?

Yes. We service stitching and hardware for the life of the bag. Email us a photograph of the problem and we will tell you what it needs.
